This past weekend my oldest son and I attended a local Hotwheels meeting/swap meet. Lots of vendors were there. I found a cheap builder Johan Superbird model with one of my all time favorite box art designs of any model by any company. So,I bought it! I am either going to restore the builder,or finally build one of two winged mopar Johan Superbird kits I have in my stash. So,I’ll show y’all the box art and the stock version I’m considering doing. Stay tuned! Todd

...they were a groovy design & these are hard to jag, so, Good One!. I wonder how it would affect/improve sales if they went back to that style of packaging? What shape was the kit itself in?

Here is what was in the box. Fair paint, but it has a damaged windshield. Here is what I’m going to build. It’s a direct reissue of the cartoon boxart kit. I Can’t decide on the stock version or the Petty NASCAR version.I’m going to have to track down some decals to do the toony boxart version. I don’t trust the original decal sheet. It’s 54 years old after all! I plan on starting this sometime in August! Stay tuned! Todd

Those "mod" Johan boxes go for some decent money these days ! I bought the kit years ago , before the other companies started issuing their own Superbird kits. I built it stock as the race parts that were included were not really Nascar stuff but more like a Hobby stock racing class, and I didnt want to enlarge the fender wells. I painted it Basin Street blue, which is a Mopar 72-74 color, but I liked the color and I had a Duplicolor spray can left over from my old 1972 Duster . If you build it stock it has to have a vinyl roof ! It looks like the original builder was trying to replicate Charlie Glotzbach's #99 Charger Daytona

...They are great 'pop-art' boxes. I've got the Willys, '57 Chev & the Studebaker cartoon kits from AMT somewhere in the archives? The builder You got looks like a real 'fixer-upper' too.
