Hope it's OK but I thought I'd start my postings here with a couple of old builds and first up we have The Big Beer Wagon. This started with a friend giving me an utterly horrendous Russian kit of an antique flat bed truck. The mouldings were dreadful, the fit was worse and the plastic was unlike any styrene I've ever encountered - really brittle and hard. Trust the communists to take the fun out of model building! And yet. Something kept nagging away at me that there was something worth finding in this box of unpleasantness. Long story short, I ripped into it and gave it all I had (I say "ripped into it" but actually most of it went into the bin). I knew it had to have a statement motor so I really went to town on that: it's a straight five, overhead cam, twin plug lump with twin blowers, six carbs and an exhaust turbine thrown in for good measure. I thought that should take care of the power required to get it moving. The rest came from the parts box and/ or lengthy scratchbuilding sessions. It was a lot of work but it's still one of my favourites! Hope you like it.

Very Nice job You've done there! Great resurrection! I've never seen that kit before? ...now I want one. Fantastic work on the engine man! Where did You find a straight five? It has the desired effect, I'll give it that!

Thanks guys! It's not actually a straight five - if I remember correctly it's a straight six block from some 1/24 vintage car but it ended up as a five because I only had five valve covers to hand (from Tamiya's 900SS Ducati), so I scratchbuilt the head to suit them rather than stretch the block to take another cover.

Well, it does look the part! P.S: How did You end up with 5 valve covers from the Ducati-ies? Only mentioning it because It's amazing the asking price for those kits now!

One of the few advantages of being an old fart is that I've had many years to accumulate a mountain of parts for projects like this! Most of Ducati bits came from a friend who'd tried, unsuccessfully, to build a twin engined beast and gave up. Seriously, any time you need something for a bike project - give me a shout, I may have one in the pile.

This build is what the Show Rod movement was all about. Still a great one Harley! Love that chain drive.

Thanks Jim. Funnily enough, the chain drive was the last piece in the puzzle as I was determined that it should have chain drive but couldn't find anything suitable. Those chains are actually multi part items used by the model railway crowd in the past when they needed to have multiple moving signals running from a single point on a layout. I think they tend to use micro motors these days as those chains aren't the strongest things and I imagine they used to split a lot!

I suppose, in hindsight, my valve cover question was a bit naive when I realised after, that I'd built that V8 Moto Guzzi completely out of spares. They (the covers) do work very well on that motor.
