When I finished my '69 Ranchero last year I immediately started work on this '79 Ranchero GT . In the year since I haven't posted any photos anywhere but now that I have something worth showing I thought you guys would get the first look ! I've spent most of the last year working on the front end and hood , the bumper-grille-lights are made but aren't in this photo . Then I moved on to the sides and that lower belt line and scribing new door panel lines , during this I mucked up the wheel openings pretty bad and had to completely reshape them . Around the end of April work on the bed and quarter panels began , the overall shape is close but the profile is too flat and the bulge of the wheel opening is too big . Once these and a couple other corrections are made I can move on to the bed-tailgate and taillights . It will be painted Dark Jade Green with Gold graphics to match a shop truck we had back in the 80's , the custom gold decals have already been printed (I printed black stickers for this photo). I was hoping to have it finished this year but now it's looking like early next year sometime .

Thanks Jim and Todd , I sure will that's not a problem . I spent nearly a year on the '69 and that was starting with a Torino body , this one had no such starting point .

It's looking like it's getting close man. Is the whole thing scratch-built? Or did you start with a particular kit?

It's looking like it's getting close man. Is the whole thing scratch-built? Or did you start with a particular kit? Thanks , it gets a little closer every time I work on it . With no available body to start with it's almost completely scratch built . I did use a Revell '76 Torino body as a base to build on but only the cowl , A-pillars and roof are still intact . I used lots of Evergreen plastic and body filler to get the "square" shape of the '79 Ranchero body . . . I probably cut it apart and redid things a half dozen times to get it right . An AMT '68 El Camino donated the pickup bed .
