I recently scored an old Aurora "The Wurst" kit that was originally from the Parents Magazine "Young Model Builders Club". I have 4 kits from that era,the other club was called "Model Builders Club Of America". I haven't found a whole lot of information about either club other than a link from MCM's forum that I will provide at the end of this thread. So,did any of you get a kit from either one of these clubs back in the day? I had never known about either club until I got back into the model building hobby earlier this century. My collection of these generic boxed kits are posted below: And here is the link with some info from the MCM forum: www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/92519-model-builders-club-of-america/Todd

Nice collection Todd ! The early 70s kits sent had the white boxes with the black "builders club selection " the later ones had the purple oval on them , probably around 1975ish . I got the Wurst, but never finished it and it ended up all over my parents basement ; once in a while I'd find a piece of it. The Guber Wagon I built, but at 12 years old it was a complete unpainted glued up mess and it ended its days under my parents pine trees, a victim of a firecracker

Ok, My mom signed me up for the Young Model Builder Club in 1972, and I think I was there until 1975 . I remember there was a checklist of what you liked to build, and I put cars, but as it turned out you got what you got. The free first kit you got was the Apollo moon landing kit, with the Columbia "flying " above the moon and the lander on the moon, and some paint brushes and plastic tools. The club was basically Revell's way of getting rid of old stock and slow sellers ; a lot of kits were actually old Aurora kits , some of which are now pretty rare . The instructions, were almost always printed in purple or blue ink , and many still had the Aurora logo on them. Here are a few that survived that I found : The kits always came in a white box with the box art cover glued on the front ; I've seen newer kits in brown boxes that just have Young Model builder club on them with no box art at all. Here are a couple I picked up to replace my long gone ones : Thisis a club survivor, it spent nearly 50 years on my parents hallway bookshelf Even though I checked "cars" on my form, I got everything ! Actually , I got more non cars than anything . Some of them I still have it bits , the ones I remember that aren't shown in the instruction sheets PT 109 Deal's wheels Baron Harbor tugboat Taurus Russian destroyer Moskva Aurora Blue knight of Milan Russian t34 tank f15 Eagle jet fighter Aurora Model T Huey Cobra copter Deal's Wheels zzzz28 Aurora Viking ship Aurora American astronaut sopwith camel/fokker triplane USS North Carolina Aurora Boob Tube

Don, Until you mentioned that you received Aurora “Boob Tube” 1:32 kit,I didn’t realize that any Aurora cars were included in the club kits! Then in your picture of the instructions there are a couple of more cars! The older I get, the more of an Aurora company enthusiast I am becoming! I would have to rate them right up there with Johan as being very desirable collector kits! It really makes one appreciate the golden age of the model building hobby! It’s also good to know that the American compay,Atlantis Models, keeps unearthing model kit molds we all thought were extinct! Who knows what they will unearth and share with the world!
Thanks for sharing all of your information/insights into these clubs,Don!!!

These are all very cool, and also neat you guys still have some.
I was never in any of the mail order clubs like these back then, but I did get a few in a similar type of club around the early 1990s, I am looking for some of the boxes, I think I still have.
Great thread
Jim
