I bought this yellow complete Mint in Box Rat Vega at a HMCA swap meet in Indy several years ago.An old friend was a vendor, and talked me into buying it after some polite price haggling between the two of us.This same friend was here in Indy several years before at another HMCA Swap Meet where I had the opportunity to meet several model board friends face to face.Bob Boehm was one of the guys that I met face to face that day-(AKA Hotwheels is his user name Here). We were already friends, and our friendship only got stronger from there.I eventually decided to enter this Vega for one of Bob's Contests on his Plastic Addicts Anonymous board.I had several painting issues, and the original body and hood warped while drying in my cheap food dehydrator which I no longer have!I dropped out of that contest and it was very frustrating. Then it got added to my "stalled projects" stash. So,I ended up getting a minor glue bomb yellow Rat Vega builder off of Ebay mainly for the body and hood.I'm using the engine block halves from it as well, ( I have no flippin idea where my halves ended up).I told Bob about obtaining the builder, and I planned on revisiting the build while he was alive.Well, that never worked out. So,I originally entered it in our latest "Finish What Ya Started 2" contest here. Then I realized last week that this build was way too personal for me.So I removed it from the contest, and here she is in thw "Projects in Progress" section. So,this build will be dedicted to our friend,Bob Boehm. I plan on finishing this over this Winter season 2023. Stay Tuned,Amigos!!!

The first picture is what I started with, and was the original stalled contest build. The Yellow body is from one builder, and the other body that is black was what I attempted to finish for Bob's PAA contest that I painted black. It was a nicer builder, and I broke a rear car body part on it during the painting process. It's my "back up" if this project fails again!!!The second pic below is the body and the parts that are painted with Tamiya spray paint.

Anyone who knew Bob knew he was a great guy. I never even met him, but we did share a few phone calls , and many emails. He was always willing to help out. I was really shocked when he passed away even though we all knew it was only a matter of time. I stopped building for a while , but I realized Bob would not have wanted us to stop doing what Bob and the rest of us enjoyed doing. This Vega and the Poison Pinto somehow eluded me all these years ; I kind of hoped they would be reissued, but with the demise of Monogram and Revell in Germany , I'm thinking that's a lost cause - I really like that shade of yellow on the body , I'm looking forward to seeing this one built !

Nice to see you back on this one Todd ! Is that camel yellow ? I like it !
I also never met Bob but talked with him several times and he was a super nice guy . When he got sick he was still thinking of his friends and still wanted to do something with PAA for everyone . . . you know the story . I started a tribute build for Paul Canney last year but it ended up over in the corner , I need to dust it off and finish it !

Nice to see you back on this one Todd ! Is that camel yellow ? I like it ! Thanks for the nice comments, guys! Bob, the Tamiya spray paint color is “Brilliant Orange”. It looks yellowish orange in person. I originally got this spray paint to do the Revell Funster reissue of the McLapper Deals Wheels kit. It’s like a Mclaren race car color. Tamiya spray paints are expensive, but they are the best little cans I have ever used! I haven’t had any disappointments using them yet! Todd

Hi Todd, I am so embarrassed I haven't replied to this sooner. I can't think about Bob B. without getting all choked up. We spoke on the phone a lot, he knew I had a bad long distance carrier and calls costed me a lot. He told me to spend my money on models and he had good service and would call me. We spoke a lot about models and his dart throwing tournaments.
This is a good project, hang in there with it. I have too many stalled tribute projects, some of those are living tributes,(should probably do those first, LOL)
Your Friend Jim
