I never cared for the Fire Iron , maybe it was the dark looking cover photo, plus all that gold plating against the red and the spoked front wheels just turned me off from ever buying it. I thought the Fire Cracker looked better with the steamroller tires and I jumped at the chance to buy a supposed good rebuilder from a guy on a facebook model site. Well I got it, but it was far from good, and actually far from a rebuilder too. Luckily Todd had a Fire Iron and we struck a deal. I planned on painting it red until I put a flat white as a primer, and I remembered that not all Fire trucks are red and it looked good in white (to me, anyway) . Because there was so much gold plating , I painted some of the plated parts with chrome Alclad ; other plated parts were hit with dullcote to take the shine out, and other parts were swapped from the junk Fire Cracker ,which had faded gold plating , which off set the new plated parts. The seat was painted with some old watercolor paint which gave it a look of a faded red leather. The decals had darkeded edges, which seems to be a common issue with this particular kit, so I didn't cleacoat it in case it gets reissued again . I hope you guys like it !

Thanks for the compliments, guys ! I really was wondering how it all would turn out after changing things up, - even the rim color had me thinking...White ? Red ? Silver ? The votes went for red ,and I think it was the right choice

This looks really great in white ! So much better than red , well done ! I've got a Fire Cracker I've been wanting to build but can't decide on a color . I was thinking white or bright yellow but now I've seen both of those done , so maybe a bright fluorescent green ? I've seen some fire engines painted like that but it doesn't really go with the brass .

You're right, the brass wouldn't look right, but maybe if all the brass parts were chromed ? I think that would really stand out !
