I have a couple of Revell model kits from the "Revell Modelers Club" It was something Revell did in the 70's to attract potential youth into the model building hobby. Was anyone here ever a member of the club, and if so,do you recall which kits you received once you joined up? I got this pictured one in the last few years. It appears these kits came in mailing boxes with an image of the actual kits box art pasted on the box, like the image I have provided below.Oh,by the way...My other Revell Modelers Club kit is the fabled "Rodfather"...I won one on a buy it now on ebay, and I have never seen another one listed....It may be one of the most rare kits that I own (no,it's not for sale or trade)! Todd, I was a proud member of that club ! It was the early 1970s. My mother signed me up for it ; the first kit I got was the Apollo lunar lander with the capsule "flying" above it. I remember you had to check on the order form what kind of kits you liked to build, but they ended up sending you anything, and I mean ANYTHING ! A lot of the kits were old Aurora leftovers, the rest were slower selling kits. They came in white mailing boxes with the kit art pasted on the front of the box .The instructions were printed with blue ink instead of the usual black ink (I still have some) Some kits were pretty uninteresting, but I did build most of them. I still have a couple of the ones I built, and once in a while I'll find a piece of one in the parts box ! The other kits I remember getting - in no specific order : Aurora Jaguar XKE Braniff 747 the Blue Knight - still have it Ragnarok orbitsl interceptor Black Falcon pirate ship - still have it Viking ship Astronaut in space Focke Wulf Russian t34 tank- still have it Sikorsky skycrane WW1 french biplane- still hanging in my dads basement ! Moscow Russian destroyer stock Model T - still have it 1934 Ford coupe the Wurst Crusader knight Deal's Wheels Van Revell mothers cherry pie Harbor Tugboat Taurus Huey Cobra Copter Yamaha dirt bike Deal wheels Baron- still have it Rough Rider chopper pt 109 - still have it several Missouri class battleships empi dune buggy Yamaha DT 250 bike As you can see -not too many cars were mailed to me ! Once in a while I'll check on Ebay for club kits. I guess it continued after I stopped getting them. Some kits are pretty pricey now, others are common. I picked this one up off Ebay a while ago to replace the one thats lost to the landfill. This is what they looked like

On a side note, the Black Falcon pirate ship molds ended up being used for an aquarium aerator. If anyone had a fish tank back in the day, you may remember a plastic shipwreck broken in half that had the lifeboat bob up and down as the bubbles went through it . They took the original molds, added holes , removed the rigging, break the masts ,altered the name on the back of the ship to Black Fallax ,but theres no mistaking where it came from. look up "action air" shipwreck and you should get an image of it.

Thanks for the information on this club,Don and Jim. So,I see it cost $2 on the application to join.Don,Did your mom have to pay for each kit,or were they complimentary kits to encourage you to build? You received quite a few kits there,Don! Very impressive, and I like that Ebay score you have pictured here. I didn't know anything about this club til like 5 years ago when my endless search for a Rodfather on EBAY allowed me to find one of these builder club "Rodfather" kits on a Buy it Now.I was at the right place at the right time! So,no,Steve O,I am not giving it away! LOL I got some pretty cool kits in the 70's from my parents, but I don't ever remember seeing that "application" in a Revell box (it's in thee picture under my pictured T Bone stake model in this thread).I probably would have bugged my parents to join said club if I found the application! It's really too bad the Model kit manufacturers won't do something like this again.I guess they figure it's not a good idea since most kids aren't into plastic models anymore. Todd

I picked up the 'Patent Pending' club version a while ago,we didn't have that down here back then,I think if you joined the turn around postage-wise would have been 2 1/2 years to get something?

Todd My mother had to buy each kit that was sent ; if I'm not mistaken there was an invoice taped to the outside of the box. I think it was pretty cheap -like $2.00 plus shipping . I read a little into the club online last night, and it seems that later kits sent (late 70s to 80s?) were all Monograms. All the ones I ever got were Aurora and Revells . From what I read , there were limited amounts of Monogram kits and many people kept getting the same kits over and over. - I'm sure thats why some kids quit the club .
