I recently paid a visit to my favorite local hobby shop (LHS).It has had the same owner and location since the 70's.The owner is a very knowledgeable man who knows all things about hobby stuff, old and new.He never ceases to amaze me with his knowledge!!! I recently paid him a visit, which is rare for me cause he picks his days and business hours to be open.Kinda like that Floyd's barber shop thing, lol! I noticed he had a lot of older out of production kits,so I struck up a conversation with him.It seems he put "feelers" out there to Midwestern Hobby shops, and told them if they should close,he would "consign" their inventory,so they wouldn't take as big of a loss. This way he gets $,as well as them, and it keeps the stuff from going on that "auction site".I think that site is a very sensitive subject to him,and a lot of Hobby Shop owners.I for one feel that the internet has shut down a lot of small business hobby shops.I buy a lot more online than I do at our local Hobby Shops,so I am one of the guilty ones here.Funny thing is,he has inventory tucked away that he is consigning. He told me that.I didn't want to pry too much, but I got a feeling he has some pretty good stuff that he WON'T auction off,nor will he tell me---or anyone else---what other vintage stuff he has.He has consignment kits from at least 2 closed hobby shops on his sales floor now,and he said he regulary restocks it....I can only imagine what other goodies he has....Too bad I can't go there more.I really like him helping out the closed shops, and the photos that I am about to share are only a tip of the iceberg of his out of production kits.
