I wanted to share a very interesting story with you all here. For years I have thought that I got my interest in plastic models from my Uncle who is my Dad's brother. We used to race go carts on my uncles property, and I got all of motorhead/gearhead interests from him.My dad would have a hard time telling you what a distributor cap is,much less work on anything car or truck related!I also remember my Uncle having a huge collection of slot car stuff, and I THOUGHT he was the one who I got my interest in the model building hobby from.
Fast forward to 2013.My parents moved back up in my area.My mom found an old Revell "Highway Pioneers" model box that my dad wanted to throw away before they moved here.Mom told him to give the model box to me,which he did.It has the stamp on the side which reads "#H36 Model A Ford 1903". I found out in my research that this series was released between 1951 and 1955.That means that my dad had this kit in his teen years. It also means that my Grandfather actually bought him a model kit with the hopes of,"I think this is something he would like to build".The box is pictured below:
This is now the oldest model kit box that I own.I recently obtained the reissue of this kit which was reissued between 1960 and 1963,and it is the oldest unbuilt model that I own.I also like it's box art better, and it is pictured below:
I have yet to tell my dad this story.I am fascinated to find out more!!! I never thought he enjoyed plastic models.Maybe he did....At least I know he had this ONE kit,and I now know I at least got some of my model building interests from him!
